INFORMATION TAUFERS CASTLE AT SAND IN TAUFERS (CAMPO TURES)

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:

From 6th August 2021 on access to our castles Trostburg and Taufers will be possible only with Green Pass.

  • Green Pass (valid from the 15th day after the first vaccination until the second vaccination, and for 9 months from the second vaccination),
  • recovery from Sars-CoV-2 (validity 6 months) or
  • negative PCR or rapid antigen test Sars-CoV-2 (validity 48 hours).

 

TOURS

Taufers Castle can be toured with or without a guide (without the guide only in summer) 

Breakfast Room The self-guided tour is of the castle complex. Clearly arranged information tablets are situated throughout the complex including:

  • the areas of the courtyard with forge and castle garden
  • the dungeon with film-show room.  The film is either a documentary about Taufers Castle or about special events
  • the "ice cellar", battlement parapet, and the attic (used for grain storage) of the former Great Hall

The guided tour covers the castle complex plus over 20 furnished show rooms such as

  • the chapel with Michael Pacher paintings
  • the library, Cardinal's Room, and guest rooms
  • the Knights' Hall and Chamber of Armory
  • the office, courtroom, the "torture chamber", and prison
  • he "sickroom" which includes the collection of portraits of the pupils of the 16th century nobles' school at Taufers
  • the "Ghost Room" of Margarethe von Taufers

 

Sigismundus Freyherr zu Wolckhenstain, 10 years oldIn addition to these tours, visitors are welcome to attend the Südtiroler Burgeninstitut's other offerings like seasonal exhibitions in the dungeon and the occasional cultural event.  We also invite you to the refreshments and ambiance of the castle's bar.

Visitors bringing their dogs with them can leave them in the provided "dog boxes" while on tour.

everyday (also Mondays) at 11am in german and at 12am in italian

08.12.2023-28.03.2024:
everyday (also Mondays) at 11am and 3pm in german and at 12am and 4pm in italian

Exception: The 24th December the castle is closed in the afternoon and the 25th December and 1st January the castle is closed in the morning.

Minor summer season 2024 (29.03.-06.07.2024 and 01.09.-03.11.2024)

  • everyday (also Mondays) at 10am, 11am, 12am, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm

Peak summer season 2024 (07.07.-31.08.2024)

Guided tours in italian:
everyday (also Mondays) at 10.00, 10.30, 11.10, 11.40, 12.20 a.m. and at 1.15, 1.55, 2.25, 3.05, 3.35, 4.15 and 4.45 p.m.

Guided tours in german:
every day at 10.00, 11.10, 12.20 a.m. and at 1.55, 3.05 and 4.15 p.m.

  • every Tuesday and Thursday at 9.00 p.m. (night-tours)

ACCESSIBILITY

Taufers Castle is accessible from the village of Sand in Taufers in the Taufers Ahrn Valley (Tauferer Ahrntal), 13km north of Bruneck. For a short, easy going walk, there is a footpath.  The castle can also be reached by car via a clearly marked forest road just a kilometer north of Sand in Taufers, branching off of route SS621 (Sand in Taufers-Prettau).
 

Parkinglocations at the castle are limited.
